Evening Canticles

SATB + organ, 4'00" (2018)

This setting of the evening canticles for choir and organ uses pentatonic scales and harmonies in unusual ways for a fresh take on the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis that is still accessible to church choirs and appropriate for liturgical performance. It takes a great deal of inspiration from singing many evensong services with different groups during my time in Scotland, and I hope it recalls Howells and MacMillan in certain moments.
